How many images should a listing have?

What each marketplace allows, how many images actually move the needle, and exactly what each slot should show.

There are two different questions hiding here: how many images you're allowed to upload, and how many you should. The platforms set the ceiling; conversion data sets the target. Here's both.

How many you should actually use

The sweet spot for most products is 7 to 8 high-quality images. That's enough to answer every pre-purchase question without padding the gallery with filler. More images only help if each one adds new information — three near-identical hero shots hurt more than they help.
